Correspondence and scrapbook belonging to Lawrence J. Mehren (Georgetown University C'31), former editor of "The Hoya" student newspaper.
Consists of two published World War II albums recounting the wartime service of the U.S.S. Bataan (CVL 29), 1943-45, and the U.S.S. Bairoko (CVE 115), 1945-1946, on both of which McHugh served as a Chaplain in the Pacific. He attained the rank of Ltcmdr. The first ship, the light carrier Bataan, saw heavy action; the second, the escort carrier Bairoko, came too late to see any action.
Clippings and correspondence. Includes material re Gorman Diagnostic and Research Building. Present is a letter dated February 7, 1947 from Fr. Gorman to General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower asking him to write a dedication for the 1947 yearbook and a transcription of Einsehower's response.
Contains eleven, mounted, black-and-white photographs showing phases of construction work on Lauinger Library, beginning with ground clearing in the summer of 1967. A card with the photographs indicates that they were taken by Jim Lawrence.
The collection primarily consists of interviews conducted by James H. Jones with medical professionals who were responsible for the care of David Vetter. Vetter suffered from severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) and was popularly known as the "Bubble Boy." The interviews were conducted in 2001 for a book that was ultimately not completed. Additionally, the collection contains audiovisual materials and photographs related to Vetter.
