The personal papers of former Georgetown University President Fr. Leo O'Donovan (1934-) consist of his published and unpublished writings; teaching materials for classes at Fordham University, Union Theological Seminary, Weston School of Theology, and Woodstock College; and papers related to Jesuit theologian Karl Rahner.

Found in Notes:  He then went on to study at Georgetown University, earning a degree in English and philosophy in 1956, and the L’Universite de Lyon, where he was a Fullbright scholar (1956-1957).

Found in Notes:  His music has been performed by Poland's Filharmonia Sudecka, the Detroit Symphony, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Colorado Symphony, and the Encuentro Musical de los Americas in Cuba, as well as at Great Britain’s Lake District Music Festival, the Lamia Conservatoire in Greece, and the Cork Orchestral Society Concert Series in Ireland, the London Song Festival, and at the Chetana International Music Festival in Kerala, India.

Joseph P. Orme Papers

Collection-level Scope and Content Note

The collection contains eight autograph letters written by Georgetown College alumni to fellow alumus, Joseph P. Orme, between the years 1856 and 1860. The content of the letters range from catching up on news of friends and family to serious political debate. The opinions written by these young men display the divided state of the nation on the brink of civil war. Of the seven friends, at least three went on to fight in the war, two for the Union and one for the Confederacy.

Found in Notes:  He joined the Federal Service and was a Colonel and Aide-de-camp on the staff of the Governor of Maryland.

Menc S. Szymczak Papers

Papers of Menc S. Szmczak (1894-1978), relating to his long career on the Federal Reserve Board from 1933 to 1961. Included are manuscripts of speeches and articles, as well as press releases and newspaper clippings.

Found in Notes:  He received multiple bachelor's, master's, and law degrees and taught at two of the schools he attended—St. Mary's College and De Paul University—between 1913 and 1933.

In 1925, Szymczak became organizer of the Ridgemoor Building and Loan Association.

Washington Irving Letterbook

Collection-level Scope and Content Note The Washington Irving Letterbook (1 box, 0.25 linear feet) consists of one bound letterbook containing handwritten copies of outgoing letters dated from 1842 to 1844 written by Irving (1783-1859) while he served as U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846). Although most of these letters were copied in the hand of Irving's secretary, a number of them seem to have been copied by Irving himself in his own hand. The Walter Shewring Papers is a small collection of letters, essays and manuscripts by Shewring. The most notable item is the full autograph manuscript of Shewring's translation of Homer's "Odyssey," published by the Oxford University Press (1980). The collection includes some correspondence and printed articles by such distinguished acquaintances as Walter de la Mare, Eric Gill, David Jones, and Arthur Waley.

Leopoldo Duran Papers

Scope and Contents The collection primarily contains correspondence from Graham Greene to Leopoldo Duran (1964-1990). It also includes correspondence from Vivien Greene, Hugh Greene (brother) and Elizabeth Dennys (sister). Of note is a common place book containing autograph entries by Greene dating from the late 1970s.
