The collection publications and ephemera related to the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and its library, dating from 1971 to the 2010s. These include newsletters, promotional materials, and clippings. It includes a number of publications produced by the Bioethics Research Library, including Scope Notes (primers on bioethical topics), bioethics bibliographies, bioethics thesauruses, database guides, and lists of holdings.

The KIE Newsletters include messages from the Institute's Directors, essays on bioethics, and information on the Institute's programs, scholars, and library.

Historical Note

The Kennedy Institute of Ethics was established in 1971 at Georgetown University as one of the first bioethics research centers in the world. It library was formally established in 1973. From 1985 to 2009 it was funded by the National Library of Medicine and was known as the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature.
