Scope and Contents Benedict Sestini (1816-1890) was born in Florence and entered the Society of Jesus in Rome (1836). He served as assistant director of the observatory at the Roman College until the revolutions of 1848 when he left for the US. There he was stationed at Georgetown College, where he remained until 1869 as caretaker of the observatory and teacher of astronomy and mathematics. Sestini was then transferred to Woodstock College (1869-1885), the Church of the Gesú (Philadelphia, 1885), and Frederick...
