Jesuit Obituaries Collection

Scope and Contents

The collection is comprised of news clippings, typed biographical notes, printed memorial cards, and occasional correspondence regarding approximately 1,300 Jesuits who died between 1565 and 1970. Materials cover Jesuits from North American (e.g., Maryland, Missouri, California, and New Orleans) as well as European provinces and are arranged by day of death.

Conditions Governing Access

Most manuscripts collections at the Georgetown University Booth Family Center for Special Collections are open to researchers; however, restrictions may apply to some collections. Collections stored off site require a minimum of three days for retrieval. For use of all manuscripts collections, researchers are advised to contact the Booth Family Center for Special Collections in advance of any visit.

Conditions Governing Use

Researchers are solely responsible for determining the copyright status of the materials being used, establishing who the copyright owner is, locating the copyright owner, and obtaining permission for intended use.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was previously part of the University Archives (prior to 1970) and was likely created or collected by previous university archivists (namely, Frs. Causey, Bellwaur, and Repetti) from approximately 1940 to 1970.

Processing Information

This collection was rehoused into acid-free boxes and folders in January 2024.
