This collection includes correspondence, audio tapes, articles, and research files pertaining to the case of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd in the context of the Lincoln assassination, Dr. Mudd's imprisonment for his alleged involement therein, and the campaign by the Mudd family and George McNamara to clear the name and rehabilitate the reputation of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd.

Philip Cardella, SJ Papers

The papers in this collection cover a wide variety of places and events--not all clear in their relationship to Cardella. Most are in Spanish (letters to and from Central America as well as sermons for his New York community). There are seven folders of correpondence, received and sent, with some undated drafts of letters; four folders of material for and about the Spanish community in NYC; and small amounts of teaching material, legal documents and opinions, and inscription drafts.

Rodney Loomer Mott Papers

Scope and Contents

The papers of Rodney Loomer Mott span the years 1942 to 1946 when he served in Berlin as Deputy Chief of the Public Finance Branch of the Office of Military Government for Germany, U.S. Zone (OMGUS). The papers comprise an interesting collection of legal, military, and personal documentation of Germany's financial status and subsequent reorganization by the Allies after the war. Found in Notes:  For four years, from 1930 to 1934, Mott served as a research consultant and managing editor for the American Legislators Association in Chicago (This was an organization of public officials which was a legislative reference clearing center for state legislators. The organization prepared bulletins on legislative and public administrative problems, and edited State Government magazine).

Manuscript account of the life of Saint Colette (b.1381-1447), as related by the Abbot of Saint-Laurent (c.1750-1770). Full title in French: "La Vie de la bienheureuse Collette Reformatrice des Religieuses de Sainte Claire." Bound volume, 285 pages.

Found in Notes:  During this time her mission to reform the Poor Clares was made clear to her. She sought permission from antipope Benedict XIII, at Avignon, who received her into the Second Order of St.

John E. Carmody (F 1973) Student Collection

This Minister was probably a Central American diplomat in Europe, possibly Peralta. The letter which Chevalier eventually sent to Chamorro is also in the collection. Found in Notes:  Moxon, as the organizer of the trip, ensured that the visit ran smoothly, even rescheduling the performance time to the afternoon when it became clear that the camera crew would not have enough light to film at night.

Lester Bernstein Papers

Scope and Contents The Lester Bernstein Papers consist of a diary written by Bernstein from July 21 to December 31 1899, part of the period in which he worked for the Isthmian Canal Commission (ICC). The Clarence J. McIntosh Papers consists of the correspondence sent by Mr. McIntosh to his family while stationed with the U.S. State Department in Saudi Arabia together with two photograph albums that contain the photographs taken while on diplomatic assignment in Ecuador and Saudi Arabia.

Found in Notes:  The close relationship that existed between the American diplomatic corps and Casoc, now Aramco, during this period is clearly detailed in the correspondence sent by McIntosh to his family.

Alexander Ward Papers

Scope and Contents The Alexander Ward Papers comprise fifteen autograph diaries of Alexander Ward from 1870 to 1889. The diaries begin while Ward is eighteen and trace his development from a wealthy youth working part-time in a factory to a wealthy land owner doing local magistracy work. The diaries offer us an interesting perspective on the day to day life of a country squire during his early years before his marriage in 1895. The entries are written in a "matter-of-fact" style, often with little commentary....

Found in Notes:  Entries during the month-and-a-half-long trip are brief, but there is clearly a tone of excitement as Ward passes through New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City (where most of the business takes place), and San Francisco, among other places.

Found in Notes:  Sheldon, a boy writing from Albany, New York, enthusiastically describes the season of his amateur team, the Hiawathas, to his friend, the young thirteen-year-old Henry McHarg at Walnut Hill School in Geneva, New York, some 200 miles away. Clearly, Sheldon is engrossed by the game of baseball, and these letters shed light on the early development of the game.
