This collection contains the papers of Charles Constantine Pise, SJ, a Jesuit who left the Society in 1821 and eventually became Senate Chaplain for the 22nd US Congress in 1832. Materials include correspondence, travel papers, writings, and miscellaneous documents.
The John Carroll, SJ Collection contains original and transcribed correspondence; two religious manuscripts; biographical notes and news clippings; and miscellaneous documents related to the first Roman Catholic bishop in the United States and the first archbishop of Baltimore. Of note are transcriptions of letters exchanged with Fr. Charles Plowden in folders 1, 2, and 6.
The Mark H. Bauer, SJ Papers contain material related to his Jesuit formation; his graduate work in biology; and honors received throughout his life. Also includes correspondence, photographs, talks, and resumes.
The Joseph M. Finotti, SJ Papers contain diaries, correspondence, manuscripts, and scrapbooks.
The William B. Cleary, SJ Papers contain a commonplace book maintained by Cleary during his Jesuit formation and early teaching career as well as correspondence, certificates, and other miscellaneous documents.
The John Dooley, SJ Papers contain reminiscences written between 1865 and 1873 detailing his service as a Confederate soldier in the First Virginia Infantry Regiment (1862-1863) and subsequent imprisonment at Fort McHenry and Johnson’s Island (1863-1865). Also includes an essay he wrote on secession (circa 1861), poetry (1870-1873), and a few pieces of correspondence (1860-1909). Materials are arranged in a rough chronological order except for the bound reminiscences in folder 8.
The Jesuit Guild of Washington Records contain ephemera (e.g., flyers, invitations, correspondence, and newspaper clippings) and photographs surrounding the social and fundriaising events hosted by the Guild. There are also several items related to the governance of the organization.
The Neil J. Twombly, SJ Papers contain notes and pedagogical materials for the study of Classics; spiritual writings; correspondence and photographs; a travel diary; and recognitions.
