Ernest A. Payne, 20th century

Scope and Contents

Approximately 20 items, mostly correspondence, belonging to British Baptist leader and scholar the Reverend Ernest A. Payne. The majority of the collection pertains to Payne’s interest in the British historian and novelist Edward John Thompson, including a number of letters from Thompson and his wife Theodosia, several letters from friends discussing Thompson’s work, and newspaper clippings containing reviews of his books. A curatorial file compiled by Scheetz is also included.

Sir Nicholas and Lady Minna O'Conor

Scope and Contents Approximately 80 items of correspondence from the personal papers of the Anglo-Irish O’Conor family, dated from the 1840s through the early 1900s. The majority are addressed to Margaret “Minna” O’Conor, wife of diplomat Sir Nicholas Roderick O’Conor, from her three daughters Fearga, Muriel, and Eileen, and her half-sister, Theresa Ann Hope. Copies of 6 notices or catalogs for exhibitions by American artist Violet Oakley both at home and in Europe between 1919 and 1958, as well as copies of two pamphlets dated 1965 from the Violet Oakley Memorial Foundation, and annotated copies of a typescript introduction to Oakley’s work by art critic Dorothy Grafly.
