"Je n'ai rien su," song for voice and piano on signed manuscript, poem in German translation on separate leaf, 4 pages total, circa 1893

 Item — Box: 5, Folder: 11

Scope and Contents

This item includes two documents: a) a signed manuscript score of a song for voice and piano with lyrics in French and German, based on a French poem by Silvestre, and b) a German translation of Silvestre's original poem on a separate leaf. The German lyrics on the score and the translated poem differ slightly (e.g., in word order), but the handwriting of each appears to be identical and may be that of Bernhard Wolff, who arranged the song (and 9 others) for piano for the publisher Fürstner circa 1893-1894.
The work in which this song was published is recorded in the December 1893 edition of Hofmeister's Musikalisch-literarischer Monatsbericht, while the Italian-English edition appears in OCLC (#247400065) as a 1894 publication, hence the dating of this item.
