American Zionist Broadsides Collection

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of three newsprint broadsides promoting Zionism in the United States, dating from 1943 and 1946. Two were produced by the Political Action Committee for Palestine and one by the New Zionist Organization of America, both operating out of New York City. Two of the broadsides feature statements by Congressman Joseph Clark Baldwin. The broadsides were originally published as advertisements in the New York Times and the New York Post.

Auschwitz Prisoner Letters

Scope and Contents The collection consists of seven letters written by political or criminal prisoners of the Nazi regime who resided in the Auschwitz camp system. The authors of these letter were prisoners who had the “privilege” of receiving and sending censored mail. Unlike the majority of the prisoners in the Auschwitz camp complex, these prisoners were allowed mail and food parcels. The Jan Karski Collection comprises three distinct groups of documents: Karski's collection of serials and pamphlets produced by various organizations of the Polish underground during World War II; records and addresses pertaining to Karski's travel and work in 1966-67, including miscellaneous articles translated and transcribed; and two distinct states of Karski's draft for his book "Great Powers and Poland, 1919-1945".

One pamphlet titled "Meet the Refugees" that was authored by the National Industrial Assembly of the Young Women's Christian Associations and published by the Women's Press (New York) in 1940. The pamphlet addresses concerns over accepting refugees who were fleeing from the Nazi regime in Europe into the United States. It argues that refugees are not a threat to U.S. labor and do not represent a "Fifth Column."

Scope and Contents

The collection contains photographs documenting the Nuremberg Trials, as well as caricatures of the following individuals: Francis Biddle, Hjalmar Schacht, Rudolf Hess, Walther Funk, Fritz Sauckel, Karl Dönitz, Wilhelm Keitel, and others. Two of the drawings appear to be signed by someone named "Sperber" (possibly Karel Sperber).

Some of the photographs were produced by the Associated Press and the U.S. Army--others are unattributed.
