A handwritten manuscript by Barnum on the early history of the Alaska mission, focusing on co-founder Fr. Pascal Tosi who was his superior until 1897. Barnum presents "the actual state of affairs" under Fr. Tosi's administration and offers "actual proofs," via printed sources, of Tosi's "habitual tendency to falsify and exaggerate." Contains Barnum's description of the death of Archbishop Charles John Seghers in 1886, eventually published as part of the second installment of "Life on the Alaska Mission" in the Woodstock Letters (v. 22, p. 420-456, 1893). Also includes Fr. Pascal Tosi's 1887 account of Seghers' death, accompanied by annotations from Barnum who deemed this original piece "so poor and unsatisfactory" that he had to write another.
