The Tomas Herran papers contain correspondence, cables, letter books, and related material dealing primarily with Colombian-U.S. relations in the period leading up to and just after the negotiation of the Hay-Herran Treaty (1903). The documents also concern Herran's duties as minister to the United States. Printed material deals largely with the Panama Canal and the Hay-Herran Treaty. The Charles Pergler Papers comprise 1.5 linear feet of material consisting of correspondence, legal documents, clippings, ephemera, diaries and other materials arranged in 39 folders in 1 box.
The majority of these manuscripts were stored together in a folder which Greene labeled 'Nicaragua and Central America.' The manuscripts include letters written to newspapers and magazines for publication, statements and notes, a Preface and a Postscript. They all refer to countries in Latin America and are arranged in their original order. The last two manuscripts and newspaper clipping in this series were not originally stored with the others.
