Charles Plowden (1743-1821) was born at Plowden Hall, Shropshire and studied at the Jesuit college at St. Omer. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1759 and was ordained in 1770; at the suppression of the Society in 1773 he was minister of the College of Bruges. The Austro-Blegic government, due to the suppression of Jesuits, kept him imprisoned for some months after the school was closed.
