Scope and Contents The collection documents the six-year career of Edward F. Morley, was a sailor in the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific from 1935 to 1941. It consists of one photograph album and one scrapbook. The album contains 279 photographs, including ships at Pearl Harbor, and other stops in Long Beach, Norfolk Air Station, Panama, Parris Island, San Diego, Washington, Haiti, and Guantanamo, as well as images of friends and family at home. Found in Notes:  Navy in 1935 and was attached to Fighting Squadron Five (VF 5B) on the aircraft carriers Ranger and Yorktown. He primarily served in the Pacific and was discharged just prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Found in Notes:  Harlan County was nicknamed "Bloody Harlan" for its growing reputation for violence and McMahon's name and picture were printed in the press nationwide as the carrier of justice to the "lawless land." The trial ran for several months with the government originally trying to prosecute more than one hundred people for their actions against the miners in their attempts to unionize.
