The collection consists of photographs related to the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (KIE), primarily dating from the 1970s. It includes images of KIE and bioethics library staff, lectures (inclding the Intensive Bioethics Course), and buildings/spaces used by the KIE. The collection primarily contains photographic prints, although it also includes contact sheets, negatives, slides, and digital images.
Many of the images were used in Kennedy Institute of Ethics Newseltters in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Materials are open without restrictions.
Researchers are solely responsible for determining the copyright status of the materials being used, establishing who the copyright owner is, locating the copyright owner, and obtaining permission for intended use.
The Kennedy Institute of Ethics was established in 1971 at Georgetown University as one of the first bioethics research centers in the world.

The collection is organized into two series:
Series 1: Individuals
Series 2: Events, Groups, and Other Photographs
The bulk of the collection consists of materials assembled by Kennedy Institute of Ethics staff that were transferred to the BRL Archives at some point prior to 2020. The materials were retroactively accessioned in 2022.
The collection has been rehoused in archival-quality boxes and folders. Photographic negatives have been rehoused in archival-quality sleeves. Original envelopes have been retained when they include relevant documentary information.
