The studies were intended to analyze and describe the moral, political, social, and religious value systems prevailing in various countries to inform educational, social, corporate, and pastoral policy there.

Correspondence to Henderson from fellow Jesuits, friends, and associates met on his CARA (Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate) "values studies" trips. Also some correspondence regarding the financing of the values studies and his positions at Wheeling College and Catholic University.
