The organization was founded in 1931 to support significant libraries in the United Kingdom, especially the British Library, National Library of Scotland, and National Library of Wales. In September of 2024, they changed their name to Friends of the Nations’ Libraries.

Scope and Contents Various small publications by the British literacy charity The National Book League between 1948 and 1965, including examples of their Annual Lectures and Reader’s Guides. Founded in 1921 by writer Hugh Walpole, the organization has gone through many names and iterations, and is today known as Booktrust, a charity that works with schools and libraries to foster healthy reading habits in young children.
