Series-level Scope and Content Note From the Series: This series contains the autograph manuscripts attributed to Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1862). Hannibal was the second son of Hannibal Hamlin (d. 1811) and Susan Faulkner Hamlin (d. 1840). Hamlin worked for the U.S. post office in Boston, Massachusetts, until receiving an appointment in 1861 as clerk in the U.S. Treasury Department through the influence of his first cousin Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1891), Vice President of the United States.
