Hannibal Hamlin Papers
Series-level Scope and Content Note
This series contains the autograph manuscripts attributed to Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1862). Hannibal was the second son of Hannibal Hamlin (d. 1811) and Susan Faulkner Hamlin (d. 1840). Hamlin worked for the U.S. post office in Boston, Massachusetts, until receiving an appointment in 1861 as clerk in the U.S. Treasury Department through the influence of his first cousin Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1891), Vice President of the United States. Hamlin became active in Maine politics as an adult and the documents in this series relate to a state political convention he attended in 1856.
