Rev. Laurence J. Kelly, SJ, a Philadelphian, was born in 1870 and died in 1955. He received the usual education of the MD-New York Province, and had the usual variety of jobs except that the emphasis was clearly on pastoral and spiritual work rather than on university or college teaching. He did serve six years as Provincial, but almost all the rest of his career passed as a minister, in an academic setting, Parish, or mission. He kept daily appointment books (diaries in part) almost unbroken from 1906 until his death.
