Marshall, Joseph, 1816 - 1824
Scope and Contents
Br. Joseph Marshall (1788-1858) was born in Conewago, Pennsylvania, and entered the Society of Jesus in 1807. He was plantation manager at St. Inigoes (-1817) and White Marsh (1817-1828) and stationed at Conewago (1829); St. Joseph's, Eastern Shore (1830-1833); and Georgetown College (1834-1858). This folder includes:
a) ALS Grassi to Marshall re: permission for two enslaved persons, one named Charles, to marry at St. Inigoes. Also discusses the settling of the late Rev. Mr. John Ashton's estate, including Marshall traveling to St. Thomas to retrieve enslaved persons formerly owned by Ashton and bringing them back to St. Inigoes (1-3-1816)
b) ALS Grassi to Marshall re: proposed plan to have livestock on St. George's island; Grassi also writes he will see if an enslaved family could be spared from White Marsh, but that it is unlikely (6-20-1816)
c) ALS Grassi to Marshall re: sending wheat up to Georgetown College (7-18-1816)
d) ALS Grassi to Marshall on sending rules for the marriage of enslaved persons to Fr. e) ALS Grassi to Marshall re: purchase of cattle for St. George's Island (12-6-1816)

Mr. John Ashton's estate being transferred to St. Inigoes: Harrison (16), Clem (35), John (14), Michael (12), Ned (8), Isaac (14), Bill (19), Regis (12), Basil (8), Venus (40), and Nelley (35).
