Harriet Keyes, 1827 - 1830
Scope and Contents
A commonplace book or album c. 1830, once belonging to a young woman from Keene, New Hampshire named Harriet Keyes. The volume is bound in red morocco with gold stamping: floral borders on both front and back covers, the title “Album” on the spine, and the name “Harriet Keyes” added with a simple border in the center of the front cover. Brown marbled pastedowns and endpapers, and a frontispiece and printed title page reading “The Young Lady’s Remembrancer” dated 1827. The remainder of the volume consists of blank pages onto which various poems and notes from friends have been added by hand. Approximately 18 different inscriptions of varying lengths are present, some with dates in 1829 and 1830.
