Scope and Contents
Leather-bound 3-hole binder containing the typed diary of American scientist and explorer Arthur J. Moulton. The text describes a sea journey from New York to Europe, followed by a tour through Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia in his Simplex automobile, including maps highlighting the roads he took. Moulton begins January 24th on board the "Olympic" as it sails to England and ends February 21st describing the trip from Tlemcen, Algeria to Oudjda, Morocco and back. Also included is a list of medicines and surgical supplies Moulton brought with him.

Biographical / Historical
Arthur Julian Moulton, Jr. (1883-1951) was an American scientist and sometime explorer, who helped design the Breese Lawrence Moulton (BLM) motorcar, one of the first American sports cars, in 1906. An automotive enthusiast, Moulton was known for his car “safaris” across Europe and Africa. He spent his later years at his restored estate near Paris, Chateau La Verrière, which was a hospital for Allied troops in the Second World War.
