Albert Rhodes, 1884 - 1885
Scope and Contents
A softcover copy of American diplomat Albert Rhodes’ book Monsieur at Home (1885) bound in leather with 24 handwritten letters tipped in – presumably a presentation or office copy made by Rhodes himself. The letters, dated 1884-5, are copies of correspondence Rhodes sent to his publishers, the Leadenhall Press (Field & Tuer) and discuss the book’s production.

Biographical / Historical
Albert Rhodes (February 1, 1840 – April 5, 1894) was an American diplomat and author. He was stationed in various cities across Europe as well as in Jerusalem, and spent his later years between France and New York City. Rhodes authored several works of fiction and non-fiction, as well as writing for a number of American magazines.
