Feiner: Georgetown Letterbook (5 of 5), 1828 - 1829
Scope and Contents
This is the fifth of a series of five Georgetown letterbooks that contain copies of outgoing correspondence. These letterbooks provide resumes of letters sent, many of which were to parents and guardians asking for payment of student fees. This letterbook contains entries during the Georgetown presidency of Feiner.
Contains materials pertaining to Jesuit slaveholding.
October 25, 1828: Requests a boy “at least the size of Archy” to be sent from White Marsh to work in the kitchen at Georgetown.
November 21, 1828: Informs that Archy will remain for the time being because of his “sore feet” and the weather.
December 4, 1828: Asks that Achy not be given permission any longer to come to the college (“he has been spoiled”) and that he be kept away from Mat.
January 12, 1829: “Pass to two black men”: “I hereby allow my two men Stephen and Gabe to work in any place, where Mr. Rielly will employ them…”
