Manuscript #405: ALS dated January 12, [1880](8 pages), from Algernon Charles Swinburne to William Michael Rossetti, with reference to the former's views on the Paris Commune of 1871: "...Most assuredly, in my poor opinion, a Republic that is other than one & indivisible, according to the old immortal & immutable formula, is by that very fact a Republic at once doomed & dead..." Reference also to "...the absurd infamy of a remark in the Saturday Review of Jan. 3rd, where the writer of an otherwise (I think) unpraisworthy article on Wordsworth actually asserts that 'Shelley disgraced himself by publishing (sic)...a coarse & brutal lampoon, not only on Wordsworth, but also on his blameless sister'..."
