Manuscript #402: ALS dated December 9, 1880 (12 pages), from Algernon Charles Swinburne to William Michael Rossetti. A lengthy literary discourse with reference to Byron, Thomas Campbell (Scottish poet,1777-1844), Chaucer, Coleridge, Milton, Shelley, Tennyson, and Wordsworth, as well as others. Wordsworth is extolled in this letter: "...I regard W.W. as essentially and differentially one of the absolute great poets -- far higher above Byron, for instance, than Shelley can possibly be ranked above him. He has written verse which simply never was or will be surpassed in some of the highest and most glorious & precious qulities possible to human speech..."
