This folder [No. 7 of 9] consists of Parsons Papers general correspondence (1935) of Patrick F. Scanlan, Managing Editor of "The [Brooklyn] Tablet." Items of interest include: letter (Jan. 11) has two attachments-1) the first defends the Church's position on birth control-2) the second is a letter from Scanlan to a Detroit priest in rebuttal of some serious allegations made against Scanlan's character; letter (Jan. 13) addresses the topic of "lay schools" and Catholic education; letter (Mar. 16) has attachment which describes religious conditions in Mexico; letter (Apr. 1) has attachment providing conflicting views of motion pictures in an extract from "The [Buffalo] Echo" entitled "The Legion of Decency"; letter (Apr. 9) has attached a newsclipping and letter concerning Mexican leader General Saturnino Cedillo; letter (July 5) has attached a letter from the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism addresses the right of free speech; letter (Sept. 14) concerns the Legion of Decency list of movie classifications.
