Container Summary

This folder [the last of 10] consists of Parsons Papers general correspondence (1944-1958) of Martin Quigley. Much of this material pertains to censorship of motion picture productions. Items of interest include: excerpt of report [Religious Commission] of Rev. John Ellicott (June 22, 1944) pertaining to inter-faith cooperation; Editorial (Apr. 9, 1954) from "The Catholic Times" entitled: "Mr. Quigley vs. Legion and Code"; letter (May 17, 1948) from a Colored [Negro] Methodist Episcopal Church in Tennessee to local white citizens appealing for financial assistance. A rare social document for its time, this letter reflects psychological insights into negative racial attitudes of some Negroes regarding their own race as well as indicating approaches of some Negroes in dealing with racist whites.
