Series-level Scope and Content Note
This series is comprised of the papers [e.g., correspondence] of Francis Xavier Talbot, S.J., Editor of America Magazine (1936-1944). There are some folders, however, which contain items from the early 1930's, pre-dating his tenure as Editor; in such instances, these folders are generally comprised of materials dating from Father Talbot's tenure as America Magazine Literary Editor. Alphabetical correspondence files will be found to have a chronological [internal] folder arrangement [i.e., order] up to Box 30, after which its primary internal arrangement is alphabetical.

This folder consists of the "D" Correspondence (Jul.-Dec. 1940) of Francis X. Talbot, S.J., Editor of America Magazine. Items of interest include: letter (Aug. 2) expresses concern over Franklin Roosevelt's third term of office. Its attachment relates plummeting America Magazine sales due to excessive criticism of the Roosevelt administration; letter (Oct. 16) and attachment concern Sigrid Undset's political views; an anti-Negro letter (Oct. 28) concerns the "Jim Crow" army (i.e., segregation of black and white soldiers); letter (Oct. 31) has attachment which give impressions of Sigrid Undset.
