This series is comprised of the papers [e.g., correspondence] of Francis Xavier Talbot, S.J., Editor of America Magazine (1936-1944). There are some folders, however, which contain items from the early 1930's, pre-dating his tenure as Editor; in such instances, these folders are generally comprised of materials dating from Father Talbot's tenure as America Magazine Literary Editor. Alphabetical correspondence files will be found to have a chronological [internal] folder arrangement [i.e., order] up to Box 30, after which its primary internal arrangement is alphabetical.

Container Summary

This folder consists of the "B" Correspondence (June-Dec. 1941) of Francis X. Talbot, S.J., Editor of America Magazine (1936-1944). Items of interest include: letter (June 4) has attached a letter from writer John Bunker which discusses, among other matters, his book "Revolt"; letter (June 17) and attachment deals with the controversy which ensued between Father Wilfrid Parsons, S.J., and Father Brophy over the open letter printed concerning the Inter-Faith program; letter (July 15) has attached a questionnaire which every religious in the United States who entered a seminary or novitiate after Jan. 1, 1919 was asked to fill out in order assist in a study of vocations; letter (July 18) from John Bunker concerns more details regarding his book "Revolt"; letter (Aug. 26) has an attached letter which accuses the Catholic Central Verein of pro-Nazi/un-American sentiments; letter (Sept. 2) has attachment which addresses religious bias against Catholics.
