Container Summary
This folder consists of the "J" Correspondence (1932-1935) of Wilfrid Parsons, S.J., Editor of America Magazine (1925-1936). Items of interest include: letter (Jan. 28, 1933) has an attached listing of articles printed in America Magazine dealing with state and federal education (1915-1920); letter (May 16, 1933) announces the plans for the establishment of "The Catholic Digest"; letter (Aug. 24, 1933) from Father Parsons to the Editor of the "Jewish Daily Bulletin" briefly addresses the subject of National Socialism in Hitler's Germany and the Catholic concept of medievalism in response to a cartoon published in the aforementioned publication. Parsons' letter of Aug. 24 providing a different Jewish concept of medievalism. It also expresses the wish of the editor not to deride another creed; letter (Feb. 15, 1934) provides individually cited examples where some Jesuits have raised money through private efforts to support the Jesuit Seminary Fund and the Jesuit Phillipine Bureau; attached letters (July 10, 1935) and a NCWC News Service release tells of an inquiry made by a St. Louis woman who alleges that she gave money to a man who was (fraudulently) posing as a subscription agent for "Jesuit Missions" Magazine; letter (Nov. 14, 1935) severely criticizes President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his administration, making various allegations.
