Scope and Contents

1 ALS dated 11/20/1838 from Louis William Jenkins to his brother Thomas Robert Jenkins (1823-1905), a student at Georgetown College in Washington, D.C, regarding Louis' travels in Europe, Robert's college studies, and family news. Louis explains why he prefers America to Europe and makes references to William McSherry, S.J.; James Ryder, S.J.; George Fenwick, S.J.; Thomas Mulledy, S.J.; and cousin Josiah Jenkins. Louis William Jenkins of Baltimore attended Georgetown College from 1815-1822, but he did not take a degree. Thomas Robert Jenkins of Baltimore received an A.B. in 1840 from Georgetown College. Josiah Jenkins entered Georgetown College in 1838 but did not receive a degree. Sent from Paris, where it was forwarded by American Consul Daniel Brent (1774-1841) to Georgetown College, care of Rev. William McSherry, S.J., who was Georgetown College President from 1838-1839. Daniel Brent entered Georgetown College in 1830 but left in 1833 before finishing a degree. This folder includes a typed transcription of the letter.
