Container Summary

Worthington, John. Autograph Manuscript, 103 pages. Dated 1882-1883. Entitled, "John Worthington, U.S. Consul at Malta." Consists of a diary (not daily) kept by Worthington during his stay in Malta. References to his wife Cora Worthington; departing from New York; Stopping at Gibraltar, Barcelona, Marsailles, Naples, and Pompei; arrival in Malta; and sights and customs in Malta. Includes some documents which were loose in the diary: printed poem by Judith Hunter "On the Lake," autograph manuscript regarding Maltese shops and Maltese cigars. Purchased 6/2005 from Carmen Valentino in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
