1 TLS dated 7/15/1971 from Nicholas deB. Katzenbach to Jean Edward Smith indicating that Lucius Clay, co-chairman of the group formed to affect the release of the Bay of Pigs prisoners, was selected for that role by Attorney General Robert Kennedy because of his connections in the business world. Includes reference to Louis F. Oberdorfer. Also, 1 TL (carbon) dated 7/9/1971 from Smith to Katzenbach asking why Attorney General Kennedy chose Clay to lead the effort to release the prisoners. 1 TL (carbon) dated 7/19/1971 from Smith to Katzenbach thanking him for his reply of 7/15/1971.
