1 ALS in French from Jan Philip Roothaan, S.J. in Turin to his nephew, Theodoor Roothaan, giving advice to the young man about taming the passions of youth and pursuing piety, and mentioning the death of Mathias Roothaan. "J'espere que vous continuez toujours a etre sage, chretien, cela dit tout... Courage, mon cher Theodore,- vous entrez dans l'age le plus dangereux, ou les passions commencent a se faire sentir, courage, reprimez-les avec la consideration des grandes verites de la foi,- soyez exact a rempli vos devoirs de piete envers Dieu, envers la S. Virge que j'espere, vous ne manquez jamais d'honneur aumoins une fois tous les jours et de coeur- approchez-vous des sacrements, souvant, et toujours avec une vraie devotion, et tachez ainsi et vous former bon chretien, bien plus qu'honete-homme, puisque le dernier mot est devenu perfane? depuis qu'on a separe cette qualite de celle de chretien."
