Scope and Contents

Among those listed in the alphabetical name index at the front of the volume are Father James Doonan, Superioress of S. Joseph’s Orphanage Sister Euphrasia, James Cardinal Gibbons, Isaiah Garrett, George E. Hamilton, Father. Patrick Healy, George Magruder, J. Fairfax McLaughlin, William M. Merrick, Paul Pelz, and E. Francis Riggs.

Included are letters to: C. O’Donovan dated September 29, 1888 referencing the donation of the Horace Medal; George Hamilton dated October 15, 1888 asking if a Catholic professor can be chosen to fill the vacancy in the Law School and referencing the “new University” [The Catholic University of America] which “will soon be in full operation”; Paul Pelz dated October 30, 1988 referencing the porches on the front of Healy Hall; and to Patrick Healy dated November 23, 1888 in which Fr. Richards states he has “asked Frank Riggs to furnish the new library.” Also present, a letter dated November 5, 1888 seeking a drill-master from the regular army to instruct students in the College Cadets “in the manual of arms and military tactics” and a notice dated October 16, 1888 relating to the appointment of Fr. Hagen as director of the Observatory.
