Scope and Contents
Contains letters to Fr. Maguire from: Fr. Michael L. Accolti, San Francisco, with reference to obtaining a patent for a rifle invented by a Dr. Tomasi (11-30-1866); Joseph C. Mallow, County Cork, Ireland (6-29-1865); Abp. of New York, John McCloskey, introducing Madame Fanny Burgess who is working to gain the release of her brother imprisoned in Sing Sing (9-11-1865); P. L. Miller, St. John's College, recommending Mr. Pillsbury (7-24-1853); Robert Ould, Richmond, Virginia (6-29-1867); Fr. John Perrone, Rome (12-16-1853); Felipe Poey, Havana (1-28-1857); Joshua A. Ritchie, with reference to the expulsion of his sons (11-10 and 11-28-1856); Abp. of Baltimore, Martin J. Spalding, appointing Fr. Maguire as President of the Washington Conference of Clergy (1-11-1866); Fr. Charles H. Stonestreet, Georgetown College, with reference to abolishing the custom of having women as domestic servants (3-12-1855); and Angel de Iturbide, Washington (3-8-1853).
Also contains a printed circular from the Office of the Secretary of the Senate that had accompanied three packages of the works of Thomas Jefferson in nine volumes (5-17-1855); a Civil War pass issued by the Army of Northern Virginia allowing Fr. Maguire passage through Confederate lines (9-9-1862); and letters written by Maguire from St. Joseph's, Philadelphia (8-13-1854) and St. Aloysius, Washington, DC (8-1-1871).
