The collection consists of two manuscript notebooks, including a ghost story and accounts of journeys in England, France, and Italy. In English and Latin. An original pen is attached to one of the notebooks. A typescript of the ghost story is also included in the collection.
Holy Cross College Autograph Book
Autograph book containing handwritten transcriptions of poetry and prose, dating from the late 19th century. Various individuals contributed to the book. The volume is labeled "John Boyle O'Reilly" and contains a photographic portrait of the Irish poet printed on newsprint. Based on the inscriptions, this volume may have belonged to students at Holy Cross College in Bethesda, Maryland.
Lillie's Autograph Book
One autograph book book dating from 1850 to 1854 that belonged to a New England woman named Lillie. It includes handwritten transcriptions of poetry, notes to Lillie from friends, and handcolored, stamped illustrations. Lillie appears to have attended a school named Barnard. There are references to the town of Marblehead, Massachusetts throughout the book.
Ingrid R. Rose Collection of Albums Amicorum
2 albums amincorum that likely belonged to students at the University of Jena (Germany) in the late 18th century. The albums include autographs and quotations in Latin and German. The binding on one volume is stamped "1755." The other volume includes pressed illustrations of the University of Jena ("Collegium Ienense"). The inside cover of that volume is signed by Martinus Theodorus Rhodius.
