Scope and Contents Box 1: 50 slides labeled "National Geographic Society" which show American and New Zealand scientists, members of an expedition organized by the National Geographic Society and led by astronomer Samuel Alfred Mitchell, who traveled to Canton Island (also known as Kanton Island or Abariringa Island) in the South Pacific to study a total solar eclipse in June 1937.
