Scope and Contents Francis McAtee (1825-1904) was born in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland, and came to the US around 1828. He received his early education in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and eventually enrolled as a student in the diocesan seminary in Philadelphia. McAtee decided to enter the Society of Jesus in 1843 and was ordained in 1857. During the Civil War he enlisted in the 21st New York Volunteer Regiment as chaplain; after the war he was made superior at St. Thomas Manor (1866-1877),...
