Francis McAtee (1825-1904) was born in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland, and came to the US around 1828. He received his early education in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and eventually enrolled as a student in the diocesan seminary in Philadelphia. McAtee decided to enter the Society of Jesus in 1843 and was ordained in 1857.
