Scrapbook compiled by a French woman named Madeline Riva Baxter while working as a volunteer at the ‘Cantines Des Dames Anglaises’ in Vitry-le-François for the British Committee of the French Red Cross during World War I. Includes personal documents, travel certificates, numerous photographs of nursing staff and soldiers, pencil sketches, watercolor paintings, signatures, postcards, manuscript notes, and loosely inserted newspaper clippings, and other items.

The collection contains eight autograph letters written by Georgetown College alumni to fellow alumus, Joseph P. Orme, between the years 1856 and 1860. The content of the letters range from catching up on news of friends and family to serious political debate. The opinions written by these young men display the divided state of the nation on the brink of civil war. Of the seven friends, at least three went on to fight in the war, two for the Union and one for the Confederacy.

The Washington Irving Letterbook (1 box, 0.25 linear feet) consists of one bound letterbook containing handwritten copies of outgoing letters dated from 1842 to 1844 written by Irving (1783-1859) while he served as U.S. Minister to Spain (1842-1846). Although most of these letters were copied in the hand of Irving's secretary, a number of them seem to have been copied by Irving himself in his own hand.
