Scope and Contents Alexander Hitselberger (1805-1875) was born in Maryland and initially became a diocesan priest, attending Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg and later serving Norfolk and Petersburg, Virginia. He then entered the Society of Jesus in 1856, spending the majority of his Jesuit career teaching at Frederick (1859-1861), Boston College (1862, 1869-1875), and Gonzaga College/St. Aloysius Church (1864-1867).
