Scope and Contents Francis Dzierozynski (1779-1850) was born in Orsha, Russia (now Belarus), and entered the Society of Jesus in 1794. After being ordained in 1806 he was a teacher in Polotskand Mogilev until the expulsion of the Jesuits from the Russian Empire in 1820. In 1821 Superior General Luigi Fortis sent him to the US as a missionary where he became socius (1821-1823) and superior (1823-1830) of the Maryland Mission.
