Scope and Contents The Jones Collection contains some 1,500 photographic prints (many of them first generation), mounted in seven volumes, relating to the early history of American aviation from 1863-1917. The photographs were taken or collected by Jones primarily in the period 1907-1915, during which time he was editor of the pioneer technical journal "Aeronautics". Scope and Contents note Articles, correspondence, notes, and manuscripts relating to Dr. Albert Plesman (b. 1889-1953), Dutch pioneer in aviation and founder of KLM, the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Includes a carbon copy of typed manuscript of Plesman's autobiography; "Wither Civilization," a typed manuscript by Plesman; a photograph of a bust of Plesman; and a group photograph of Plesman with Mayor of Sydney, Australia, Ernest C. O'Dea (b. 1889-1976).
