Historical Note

In 1997, the Acadia Institute began a multi-year study of bioethics in American society. As part of this project, Renée C. Fox, a sociologist, and Judith P. Swazey, a historian, conducted interviews with a number of promiment bioethicists and other individuals associated with the field. Their book, Observing Bioethics, is based on these interviews.

Swazey for the Acadia Institute's Project on Bioethics in American Society. In 1997, the Acadia Institute began a multi-year study of bioethics in American society. As part of this project, Renée C. Fox, a sociologist, and Judith P. Swazey, a historian, conducted interviews with a number of promiment bioethicists and other individuals associated with the field. Their book, Observing Bioethics, is based on these interviews.
