This series contains administrative materials relating to the establishment and ongoing work of the Pacific Center, and detailed files about two major projects: the genetics and insurance project and the California Consortium on Patient Self-Determination.

Historical Note

The Pacific Center for Health Policy and Ethics was created by USC in January 1991 as a multi-disciplinary and inter-institutional center dedicated to developing and implementing policies about health care and research. Capron was Founding Co-Director until his retirement in 2023. The Pacific Center's goal was to examine issues from an ethical perspective and its work included research, working groups, conferences, coalition building, government consulting, curriculum development, clinical consultation, and ethics committees.
