Series 1: Kennedy Institute of Ethics Records, 1971-1986, 1996-1997

 Series — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

The series documents the early history of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (KIE) and includes memorandums, correspondence, press releases, meeting agendas and notes, and strategic planning documents/grant proposals dating from 1971 to 1986. It contains records related to the Kennedy Foundation and its relationship with the KIE. Topically the series documents various aspects of the KIE, such as it's day-to-day operations, it's strategic development, financial issues, the Encyclopedia of Bioethics, the IBC, and medical ethics education at Georgetown University.

The series primarily documents Andre Hellegers directorship of the KIE, but it also includes the transition to Thomas King and some material from Edmund Pellegrino's era. Finally, the series also contains materials on revising the KIE's mission in 1996-1997.
