Series 11: Institute of Human Values in Medicine (IHVM), 1972 - 2012

Scope and Contents

The series consists of records related to the Institute of Human Values in Medicine (IHVM), of which EDP was the founding Chairman of the Board. The records were collected by EDP for a history on the IHVM coordinated with Thomas K. McElhinney (IHVM Director of Programs).

Box 68: Contains presentations and papers by EDP (some unpublished), IHVM published materials, IHVM Narrative Reports 1974-1981, Pellegrino/McElhinney correspondence re: history of institute project--1972-2012.

Box 69: Contains Capstone Conference files, board meeting minutes, reports, general correspondence, and proceedings .

Box 70: Contains NEH funding correspondence, cancelled Capstone Conference files, mailing lists, program for DMEs, annual reports, policy paper, by-laws, and grant application.

Box 71: Contains records on the IHVM fellows, which were collected to gather information on their impact on the field of bioethics.

Box 72: Contains historical research files on IHVM.

Unpublished Georgetown University administrative records may be consulted only with the permission of the University office which created it. This includes, but is not limited to, the following materials:

Series 8: Board and Committee Files: Georgetown University administrative records found in boxes 34-37, 41, and Born-Digital Media Box 1.

Series 9: Grants and Proposals: Georgetown Genome Project folders in box 72.

Additionally, the folder titled “Journal Article Critiques” is closed until 2080 for privacy purposes.

All other processed materials are generally open for research.
