Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

The sub-series contains external-professional correspondence and internal Georgetown University correspondence/memorandums. It primarily consists of documents that were faxed out of EDP's office. The correspondence often related to fundraising for the Center of Clinical Bioethics at GU.

Items of note include the following:

Feb 1995: Letter to John Griffith. EDP’s plan for his future at Gtown.

Feb 1995: Medical School mission review.

Jan 1996: EDP to Veatch, re: issues with Sargent Shriver.

June 1996: Info on Managed Care: A Catholic Christian Perspective course.

December 1996: Donor correspondence, includes list of prospective donors.

January 1997: More fundraising materials. Board of Advisors for CCB.

Feb 1997: More fundraising materials. Notes on specific potential donors.

Mar 1997: Draft of paper “Why the AMA Code Matters”, outline for Managed Care talk at ABC, Report of the External Review of the Clinical Ethics Service, outline of debate with Beauchamp re: euthanasia and PAS for medical students, fundraising meeting agendas and notes (Mike Clemmer).

Apr 1997: CCB Faculty meeting minutes, fundraising meeting notes (Mike Clemmer).

May 1997: “The Challenge of Economics to Christian Ethics: The Case of Managed Care” (two versions).

June 1997: New York Medical College 1996 commencement speech, Commentary on Recommendations of the NIH Embryo Research Panel (1994) and related letter sent to Sen. Bill Frist.

July-Aug 1997: More fundraising meetings with Mike Clemmer and Marti Patchell.

Oct 1997: “Moral Foundations of Medicine and Nursing” by Janet L. Storch and EDP DRAFT. Draft CCB fundraising document.

Nov 1997: “A Doctor is a Doctor; Ethics is Ethics--and the Courts Cannot Change Either” EDP draft.

Dec 1997: Fundraising materials.

Jan 1998: Letter to Sam Weisel (Exec VP for Health Sciences, GUMC): future of CCB and relation to KIE.

Feb 1998: “The Social Functions of Academic Health Centers: A Moral Appraisal” DRAFT.

Apr 1998: Letter re: AMA and business vs. professional ethics, asked for his name to be taken off an ethics report.

May 1998: Fundraising correspondence with Daniel C. Tosteson/Harvard Medical School. Laetare Medal acceptance speech text.
